Difference between addressable and conventional fire alarm systems
In general, the main difference between these two systems is in the way of signaling and communication between the connected equipment and the main control panel.
-
- In addressable fire alarm systems, due to the existence of an address or code, especially if a device reports an alarm or error to the panel, the panel will be able to notify the user of the exact location of the fire along with its name and description.
- The conventional fire alarm system divides the area of use into different zones and connects each to a separate detection circuit. If a fire occurs in one of the zones, the panel is unable to display the exact location of the fire.
-
Advantages and disadvantages of addressable system:
- Suitable for larger areas or higher risk environments.
- Fewer false alarms.
- Faster response time and location.
- Higher price.
Advantages and disadvantages of the conventional system:
- Too much wiring.
- Lower price.
- Suitable for smaller areas or less dangerous environments.
- More than the addressable system exposed to false alarms.
